Book Review: Nanabasia N’Ananadze Egua (A Stool for Grandmother)
Author: Aba Esieduah Intsiful 🇬🇭
Type of work (Genre): Children’s Book
Number of pages: 15
Own or Borrowed: own, purchased from the author

Overall Impressions: I absolutely adored this book! It’s a really cute and heartwarming story that emphasizes community and learning to care for one another. What really had me hyped was Aba’s thoughtfulness in providing it in two languages; her native Mfantse and English. As a fellow Mfantse woman, it made me especially proud to have copies. I read it in Mfantse first then followed up with English. Some words took some time to get because I never learned to read and right Mfantse. What helped me was my knowledge of reading and writing in Asante Twi as the two distinct languages have a similar alphabet system and also being a speaker of the language. I could figure it out. This book was a great way to practice my own language and build on my vocabulary. I will definitely be rereading a few times.
Something that stood out: the Mfantse knack for humor came through. I also loved the two activities available at the end of the book. Kids and adults alike can activate their imagination and creativity.
Overall Rating: 🖋🖋🖋🖋.5 (out of 5 fountain pens).
Recommend or nah: absolutely without reservation! And I’m not just saying this because I know Aba. It’s a precious story.
