Overall Impressions: was very excited to read this second work from Peace and I think that excited fueled my expectations. Overall I liked the book even though I had some mixed feelings on some aspects. The story itself is really good and necessary. It touches on very sensitive issues we’re not used to addressing openly as a Ghanaian society so I really appreciated her going there. I also liked that we got two narrators whose divergent experiences and interpretations wound up making very critical points about social class and its influences on life outcomes. What threw me off was the title and cover art. It felt quite disconnected from the story for me and had me very confused when I was done. I would love to hear what other titles were considered.

Something that stood out: how every character was annoying in some capacity. Everyone was flawed to varying degrees. I actually loved that about the book. Made them feel real and grounded in the real human experience.

Overall Rating: 🖋🖋🖋.5 (out of 5 fountain pens).

Recommend or nah: I absolutely recommend it! I hope many Ghanaians, especially men, read and reflect on all this book has to say. It’s a necessary read to include in our understanding of different oppressions and traumas and the need to combat and address them all.
